TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM FOR CPPNJ MEMBERS

The Teacher Training Program is open to faculty and advanced candidates. This program consists of a series of four 90-minute workshops on the following topics:

  • The Nuts and Bolts of Teaching at CPPNJ – a general introduction to teaching in our psychoanalytic psychotherapy seminars
    1. Conducting Class Meetings – this workshop examines different teaching styles and techniques with a discussion of ways to foster group process in psychoanalytic psychotherapy training, and troubleshooting difficult classroom dynamics.
    2. How to Create a Syllabus – This workshop addresses the process of putting together a syllabus:  referencing the Curriculum Committee syllabus outline, framing reading assignments, designing a sequence that lays a foundation and builds understanding of the concepts, and situating topics within the broad outlines of psychoanalytic history.
    3. Evaluations:  Providing Effective Feedback to Students – Addresses the feedback process, developing an approach to giving feedback, identifying strengths, giving negative feedback, staying centered on the core focus of training.

In addition to the workshops, the Teacher Training Program matches new instructors with a senior faculty mentor to provide individualized support for teaching.

The workshop series is offered once a year, depending on demand and availability.  The individual workshops are also designed to run as a standalone meeting if there is a specific need among instructors for a particular topic.  Please note that this workshop series is not eligible for CE credit.
